About the Project

This project was created by the Disability Justice Network of Ontario with initial funding from the Laidlaw Foundation.

This project is made up of two toolkits to help criminalized people living with disabilities navigate the criminal legal system - especially those who are also racialized.

  1. For disabled and racialized youth being criminalized

  2. For disabled and racialized adults being criminalized

  3. A printable toolkit for those already in prison

There are also areas for:

  1. Family and friends of those being criminalized, with resources and tips on how to support those navigating the criminal legal system.

  2. Professionals working within the criminal legal system, with information on how to support clients who are racialized and disabled.

The Prison Project is an abolitionist project that aims to offer concrete support to prisoners,  amplify their voices and experiences, and organize and educate within the community.

The project team dreams of a world where community and relationships are central to care, accountability, and justice. One where harsh punishment and carceral practises - including the criminal legal system as we know it - are obsolete.
